Electronic shifting has some advantages and disadvantages. The most notable disadvantage of electronic shifting is the price, of course. It also adds some weight of the mechanical shifting components plus a battery weight.Total weight of the Dura-Ace Di2 is2219 grams (Mechanical Dura-Ace is 2149 grams in total).  Advantages of the electronic shifting are:

• Faster and more precise gear shifting.
• No adjustment of the both front and rear derailleurs after initial setup: adjustment and accuracy are monitored with each shift.
• Thanks to the removal of cables, true all-weather performance.
• Optional remote shift buttons for time trial, triathlon or other applications. It provides additional benefit by eliminating the need to change hand position with the rider capable of shifting gear at the base-bar or bar extensions.
